Areopagus

Areopagus is a series in religion and film that explores deep questions about faith through the discussion of notable films. Each Areopagus event features a special expert guest, from one of a variety of religious background, who chooses a film and helps us to explore that film’s religious content. We begin each night with an opening interview of our presenter, followed by a screening of that evening's film, and an open Q&A time to discuss the topics raised by the film and presenter.

The films are open to the community and admission is free.

The series is sponsored by the University Chaplain’s Office and the Lindenwood University Film Series.

Spring 2014 Films

Monday, April 14 - 6:30 p.m. - Young Hall
The Passion of the Christ presented by Dr. James Voelz, Concordia Seminary

Mel Gibson’s powerful and controversial presentation of Christ’s crucifixion will be accompanied by Dr. Voelz’s thoughts on the development of anti-Semitism in relation to the Gospels, how the Passion narrative changes when adapted into forms such as film and what the actual message in the Gospels’ narratives of the Passion really is.
