Dr. Bethany Alden-Rivers Named Provost

Lindenwood President Dr. John Porter announced the appointment of Dr. Bethany Alden-Rivers to the role of University Provost on August 25.

“With the support of our deans and faculty council, I am pleased to name Dr. Bethany Alden-Rivers as our provost,” Porter said. “Over the past weeks, academic leaders discussed the ideal attributes of a provost, such as competence, demonstrating the best qualities of a team player, and the ability to bring new and fresh ideas based on experience. In the last five months, I have seen Dr. Alden-Rivers exhibit all of these attributes and more.”

Alden-Rivers transitions to the University Provost after serving as Interim Provost since March 2021. Prior, Alden-Rivers was Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Chief Assessment Officer at Lindenwood, where she worked closely with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to evaluate the best institutional practices.

“I feel that there is a sense of purpose in the work that we do, and a hope for the future for what we will become,” Alden-Rivers said. “I have never experienced that anywhere but Lindenwood. It is such a deep honor to have this opportunity to serve the institution, colleagues, and students in this role, and I am excited to think about all of the things we will accomplish together.”

Alden-Rivers holds a bachelor’s in finance and an MBA from Missouri State University. In addition, she earned a Master of Research from The Open University, where she also completed her PhD in educational technology.
