What minimum requirements do I have to meet to post an internship opportunity to Lindenwood students?
Lindenwood University Career Services requires that employers meet the following minimum qualifications to post internship or career opportunities on Handshake for students to view:
- Permanent business address
- Company email address (yourname@companyname.com, not companyname@gmail.com)
- Company website
If your company does not meet these requirements but has an opportunity for student learning and development, please reach out to your Career Services representative to discuss.
We do not post opportunities for multi-level marketing companies and reserve the right to deny posting opportunities or hosting companies on campus at our discretion.
What is the difference between an internship and a micro-internship?
Internships are a long-term commitment where students complete multiple tasks and projects for the same organization throughout the course of a semester. Internships typically require students to work between 135 - 150 hours.Ā
Micro-internships are similar to internships, but on a smaller scale. Micro-internships are entirely project based and only require a student to work between 5 to 40 hours.

Do I have to pay an intern?
There is no requirement that you provide compensation to your intern. If you decide to provide compensation, the average wage for internships is typically between $10 and $20 per hour, depending on the industry. The internship candidate pool will likely be affected by whether or not the internship is paid.
Does the intern have to receive academic credit for the internship?
While there is no requirement that a Lindenwood student completes an internship for credit in order to complete his/her degree, we strongly recommend you consider including responsibilities relevant to a studentās academic pursuits when creating an internship. If you are not sure whether or not your internship would count for academic credit toward a studentās major or degree, please send your job description to a Career Services representative for consultation.
How many hours does the student work each week?
Students are required to complete a minimum number of hours at the internship to receive certain amounts of academic credit. The minimum hours depend on the studentās major and the number of credit hours the student is seeking. For example, a student in the Plaster College of Business & Entrepreneurship is required to complete 150 working hours to receive 3 academic credit hours, 100 for 2 credits, and 50 for 1 credit.
For a 16-week semester, this equates to about 10 hours per week. Students are welcome to complete more than the minimum working hours requirement, and the number of hours worked per week can be determined by the internship supervisor.
What is the best way to recruit students for my internship opportunity?
1. The first step (and most crucial) is to create a Handshake employer account and post your opportunity to the site. Handshake is free for employers and easy to use. See the links below to get started.

I've hired a Lindenwood intern. What are my expectations?
If the intern youāve hired from Lindenwood is completing his or her internship for academic credit, there are a few things you will be asked to do at some point before during, or after the internship.
Ā
Before the internship begins
Work with the intern to complete the Internship Approval Forms (link). Career Services will require the student to provide these completed forms to be enrolled in the internship course. The forms include:
- Expected hours worked per week
- Start and end date of the internship
- Compensation (if any)
- Job description
- Name and contact information of studentās direct supervisor
During the internship
The instructor teaching the studentās internship course will reach out to you 1 or more times during the internship to check-in and ensure the internship is progressing positively. While not required, the instructor may also ask to complete a site visit to your company.
You may also be asked to assist the student in developing learning objectives to connect his or her academic pursuits to the internship experience.
Ā After the internship
The student will be required to submit an evaluation completed by their supervisor at the end of their internship; this evaluation will be provided to you by the student. Please provide honest feedback.
