Course Description
In this craft and workshop class, we'll focus on creating a new story from scratch, working through the steps of the writing process for short fiction: we’ll start with an initial writing exercise, build a narrative arc focusing on both individual scenes and overall story structure, and end with the revision and editing stage. Each student will work to create a polished short story, receiving feedback along the way from the instructor and our classmates. This class is especially useful for the kind of fiction writer who loves language and character but would like more practice and guidance on developing plot and narrative structure. Our goal will be for each student to create a new, well-structured story from start to finish. This 8-week course will be an accelerated version of the fiction writing process, providing a useful template for writers to use as they craft future stories.
