Course Description
This course is a craft/literature class focused on discussing and analyzing contemporary short fiction from a writer’s perspective, recognizing the author’s specific choices and how they impact the overall work. Each week, the instructor provides craft notes drawn from an assigned story, and students write a brief excerpt to reflect the story’s craft techniques, receiving weekly feedback on these writing exercises. Within discussions of assigned stories, students will also consider how their observations and insights as readers can be applied to their own writing.
