One such character, Thelma Harper/Mama, was the central character of the ever-popular television sitcom series Mama’s Family , which still can be seen daily in syndication throughout most of the country. Lawrence has multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, and one Emmy Award win. She’s hosted a game show and a talk show. Lawrence also had a number one hit in the U.S. and Canada when she recorded “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” (which was later covered by Reba McEntire).
