2023-2024 Season Brochure | J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at Lindenwood University
FROM OUR D I RECTOR Dear Friends, The 2023-2024 season is upon us, and I hope you are as excited about it as I am. Presenting a variety of disciplines and programs is very important to me, as is the opportunity to continue to introduce the arts to people who may never have had an interest, or the opportunity, to experience them. It also is equally important to continue to entice longtime arts lovers by introducing new artists and concepts and presenting shows that appeal to multiple generations. The industry has changed quite a bit these past three years, but change is good. We’re embracing the new way of doing things and there are artists out there ready to share some of their magic with you. You will be singing along at the top of your voice with the Spinners , remembering all those great hits. Make sure to treat the entire family to a day of your favorite cartoons with the Queen’s Cartoonists . And it just wouldn’t be the holidays without Big Bad Voodoo Daddy — the start of a Scheidegger Center tradition! I am thrilled to bring one of our American treasures, jazz vocalist Diane Schuur , as she celebrates her 70th birthday with songs and stories remembering B.B. King, Frank Sinatra, and Stevie Wonder. Bruce Hornsby with yMusic will grace our stage in his latest collaboration and we’ll close out the season with a homegrown favorite, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils , in their 50th anniversary! One of the great things about the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts is you can take a chance on anything that interests you, or maybe something you have never heard of. The ticket prices are reasonable, the parking is free, and it’s right in your backyard! After 15 years, the Scheidegger Center remains a valuable resource for the community and region. We hope you will come and make some memories with us this season. Bring a friend, a family member, or the neighbors! Share with others what makes you want to attend shows, again and again, each season. See you at a show! Kathleen Eads Director, Theater Operations A LETTER THE SPINNERS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6 | 8 P.M. Timeless in a way few other acts are today, the Spinners are one of the most iconic and enduring groups in R&B history. The group came to define the smooth sound of “Philly Soul,” channeling the highs and lows of romance and heartbreak into a catalog of classic hits, beloved across generations — including smash singles like, “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love,” “Then Came You,” “The Rubberband Man,” and “Working My Way Back to You.” With a legacy spanning over six decades, six Grammy nominations, 18 Platinum and Gold albums, and selling millions of records worldwide, the Spinners never have lost their universal appeal. In 2021, the Spinners returned with their first all-new original album titled “Round the Block and Back Again,” and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. The Spinners kick off the Scheidegger Center’s 2023-24 season!
