Scholarships for Lindenwood University students are made possible through the generous donations of many alumni, friends, and supporters. These gifts make higher education more affordable and more accessible and help our students graduate with less debt. This allows students to focus on their educational goals and aspirations and sets them up for success knowing that Lions everywhere are rooting for them.

Types of Scholarships
Lindenwood is proud to offer several scholarships for students to help make the cost of education more affordable. 98 percent of Lindenwood University students receive some sort of financial aid, which includes scholarships funded by the generous support of our alumni, friends, and community members.
Lions Scholarship Fund
Your gift to the Lions Scholarship Fund empowers our students to focus on their educational goals and aspirations and graduate with less debt. These gifts are awarded as both need- and merit-based scholarships, supporting Lindenwood’s mission and celebrating distinguished student achievement.
Endowed Scholarships
Endowed scholarships create a lasting legacy at Lindenwood University which connects our community through generations. These scholarships are awarded in perpetuity with the principal gift amount remaining intact, and the earned income distributed in accordance with the guidelines agreed upon by the donor and the university. Endowed scholarship donors may name their scholarship, and indicate a preference for how the scholarship will be awarded.
Currently, the minimum gift for an endowed scholarship is $25,000. The University’s endowment spinoff rate is five percent and based on a multi-quarter rolling average. Endowed scholarships are awarded in the academic year after the gift is fully funded. Annual Scholarships
Annual Scholarships are funded by alumni, donors and friends each year. These gifts are awarded to students based on criteria determined by donors, who may also choose to name the scholarship. Unlike an endowed scholarship, an annual scholarship is not a permanent fund and is instead, awarded in the academic year it is received. Donors may establish an annual scholarship with a minimum gift of $2,500. Alumni who have graduated in the past five years and alumni ages 35 or younger may establish an annual scholarship for a minimum gift of $1,500.
Example of an annual scholarship schedule:
June 30: Gift sent to Lindenwood University and Annual Scholarship agreement signed. Donor receives acknowledgement letter/gift receipt for tax purposes.
August: Advancement alerts Fiscal Affairs, the Bursars Office, Student Financial Services, and if applicable the Dean of the appropriate College of the gift and amount.
November: Donor receives and award letter with a thank you from student, if awarded in the fall semester of the academic year. If there is an award amount left for spring semester of the academic year, the donor will receive a second letter in February.
March: Donors are invited to attend the Scholarship Brunch to celebrate philanthropy with other scholarship donors and students.
May: Reminder letters to sent out to past annual award donors to renew their gifts, if applicable.

The annual Scholarship Brunch celebrates the incredible impact of philanthropy and scholarship, which are both cornerstones of the Lindenwood experience. Scholarships funded by our dedicated alumni, friends, and supporters create living legacies which enable current and future students to thrive at Lindenwood, bridging our rich history with our bright future.
Endowed Scholarship Contact Information
If you are currently listed in our system as the primary contact for an endowed scholarship, we communicate with you several ways each year. Most significantly, you are mailed an invitation to our annual Scholarship Brunch. In addition, any thank-you letters from student recipients are also forwarded to you.
Besides having a primary contact, many endowments also have an alternate contact. This is most often a family member, friend, or another interested party who you would like kept informed about your endowment. This person is likely to transition into becoming the primary contact if you are no longer able to fulfill this role.
