Volunteers from across campus stuffed these backpacks with needed and grade-appropriate school supplies in preparation for the event. The backpack project is especially exciting as it helps level the playing field for these students, arming them with the same, necessary tools as fellow classmates to start the school year off well. LindenGiving is honored to assist students in their educational pursuits. Beverly Porter, Chair, LindenGiving INCLUSIVE ECOSYSTEM GRANT TechSTL, St. Louis Community College and Lindenwood University have received a nearly $300,000 research grant to study barriers to resources for entrepreneurs of color and workers in technology startups across the region. Researchers will use the inclusive ecosystem grant funds from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation over the next three years to compile data on the gaps in resources and startup growth for entrepreneurs of color. They also will explore upward mobility, job training and diversity in the tech industry. The technology group is working with faculty and staff from Lindenwood University’s Center for Applied Economics, which will serve as the primary project lead. Null Principal Dr. Kate Kimsey shares, ‘Lindenwood Reading Club has had such an amazing impact on our Null student body. CYBER SENIORS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT The College of Science, Technology, and Health under the LindenWELL—WISE subdivision is currently in the midst of offering a Cyber Seniors Program. Cyber-Seniors is an intergenerational program where LU students teach seniors how to use technology. 20 seniors come to campus each Wednesday to share, learn, and connect. Students in Introduction to Community Structure and Organization are supporting the course. “The Cyber Seniors program is a wonderful experience for public health students to learn how organizations work together to implement impactful, community programs. Students are also getting the opportunity to lead an evaluation for a community partner. Each week of Cyber Seniors, the room is buzzing with energy. Students and program participants are building real relationships and it is fabulous to see these connections,” Associate Professor of Public Health Dr. Katie Shoff shared. At the conclusion of the program, Lindenwood celebrated its Cyber Seniors with a graduation ceremony and a new-found excitement for technology. Whitley Huxhold, Coordinator, LindenW.E.L.L. and Office Manager, College of Science, Technology, and Health COMMUNITY GARDEN ON CAMPUS Lindenwood University has partnered with St. Charles County Farm Bureau to create the Lindenwood Open Classroom, a community garden for students and the community to learn together. This space has so much potential for students to learn about sustainability, the community to come onto campus and see what Lindenwood all is about, along with outside organizations being able to teach right on our campus. The garden opened in March with a Planting Party. Materials and funding were donated by St. Charles County Farm Bureau along with the manual labor and teachings from Boerding Farm.
