Lindenwood Magazine - Fall 2022

4 5 FALL 2022 EDITION FALL 2022 EDITION THE LINDENWOOD THE LINDENWOOD PRESIDENT MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS Letter from the Lindenwood Friends, When my wife Beverly and I started our journey with Lindenwood, we were keenly aware of the University’s deep-seeded history and the many legacies established. From its earliest foundation of educating women in the 1800s, Lindenwood has served as a place for inclusive learning and an environment in which all are welcome. As the University grew from a college, the legacies of our alumni enhanced the future of the institution. Scholarships, buildings, programs, and resources grew from the kindness and generosity of passionate graduates and their families and continue to enrich the campus community we know today. Lindenwood University would be incomplete without the legacies of our graduates and past employees, who have laid the foundation for our future. As the University continues to grow, we are humbled by the magnitude of our established legacies and the bright path that lies ahead. We look forward to sharing a small collection of these stories with you and hope you will visit us on campus in the near future. Sincerely, JOHN R. PORTER, ED.D. President, Lindenwood University The Lindenwood is published by the Marketing and Communications Department, with support from Advancement and Alumni Relations, for alumni and friends of Lindenwood University. LINDENWOOD LEGACIES By Julee Mitsler, MA | Assistant Vice President, Communications and University Spokesperson As we started thinking about this edition of The Lindenwood, the department kept coming back to the idea of legacy and how we’d choose to define the theme. I’ve always thought of legacies as something we leave behind and how we are remembered. But what if legacies are, in fact, products for the future? Not what’s behind us but instead how we prepare our communities for a more prosperous and successful outlook. In my role, I have the unique position of hearing countless stories from students, colleagues, alumni, and friends. And I am inspired by the passion with which Lions of all generations speak about their fierce devotion to the University. Throughout the pages of this edition, Lindenwood is proud to share a collection of legacies—stories highlighting the ways in which Lions are laying the foundation to promote future growth and help others thrive.
