Eligibility is dependent on at least one direct lineage to a parent, grandparent or legal guardian who graduated from Lindenwood. Leaving a lasting impact on communities both near and far is important for Lindenwood University and its students. This spring, students in the environmental science program began a project in partnership with a rural community in South America. Using their classroom education, the students are creating a comprehensive, sustainable, and achievable solution for an environmental problem faced by community members with the goal of presenting a solution fit for implementation. “My grandma, Sharon Tebbe, received her master’s in education from Lindenwood in 1982 and was a dedicated grade schoolteacher. When I was little, my sister and I would spend our summer vacations with my grandma. The teacher in her always made the trips fun, but very educational. Since she lived up the street from Lindenwood, she would take us to Butler Library where we would spend hours reading and writing together. On multiple occasions she would drive us through campus and would say to me, “one day you could go to school here.” In 2014, my grandma’s health took a turn as she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. In 2016, my mother suggested we tour Lindenwood together since it was my grandma’s alma mater and would be a nice memory to have before her health really declined. During my tour, I fell in love with Lindenwood and decided to attend. It was important for me to follow in her footsteps, especially since she had always stressed the importance of higher education. For high school graduation I was gifted my grandma’s Lindenwood class ring, which I have worn every day since receiving it. During my four years as a Lindenwood undergrad, I was able to visit her every day, take care of her, and tell her all about college. Because of her disease, and her inability to recognize anyone anymore, my grandma was unable to attend my graduation in May 2021, but through wearing her ring and carrying on her Lindenwood legacy, I knew she was there cheering me on every step of the way, even though she could not express it.” Mia Tebbe ‘21 Manager, Communications Content LEGACY Tebbe wears her grandmother’s class ring from 1982 As we near the end of the fiscal year with our goal in sight, we call on our collective Lindenwood community to help us surpass $3 million in support of New Horizons by June 30.
