International students can travel while they are on the F-1 visa.

In order to travel outside of the US, the F-1 visa and the SEVIS record (I-20) must be active.

The F-1 visa can be expired if traveling within the US, however if you are traveling outside of the US the visa will need to be active or renewed. If you need to renew your visa, please visit the Visa Renewal Process page.

The signature on page 2 of the I-20 must be signed. The signatures are active for one calendar year. Example: signed 01/23/2024 is valid until 01/22/2025.

You will need to have your I-20 signed every year, either at Winter Break or Summer Break.
